Upon finding out that my queen Sara Bareilles is adapting the novel for the stage, I just re-read “The Interestings” and I actually liked it more the second time. I was so irritated with the navel gazing insularity during my first reading, and I was also at an age where the petty envy of successful friends (whether real or perceived success) hit a little too close to home. Gaining the distance of 10 years gave me a new perspective on each of the characters and I enjoyed it quite a bit more. I cannot wait to see what Bareilles and Ruhl do with it.
